Missed Call Calculator
Find out what unanswered calls are really costing your business — in jobs per month and dollars per year. Four numbers, sixty seconds, and nothing you type ever leaves this page.
What are missed calls costing you?
Every call that rolls to voicemail is a customer deciding whether to wait for you or call the next name. Put in your own numbers — nothing is saved, nothing is sent.
- Use your real numbers. The starting values are placeholders, not averages.
- Not sure how many you miss? Your phone's call log will tell you — or the free audit will.
Find My Leaks — Free Audit
An estimate from your own inputs, not a promise. It doesn't count the repeat work, referrals and reviews a lost customer takes with them.
No magic. Just your numbers, multiplied out.
Multiply the monthly number by twelve and you have the year. That's it — no hidden industry averages and no guesses about your market. If a number feels off, change it and watch the total move.
What it leaves out on purpose: the repeat business, the referrals, and the reviews a customer brings once they're yours. For most service businesses that's worth more than the first job, which is why this number is the floor, not the ceiling.
Getting your real numbers
- Calls per week: your phone's call history, or your phone company's online account.
- Missed calls: count voicemails, no-answers and calls that came in while you were on another line.
- Would have booked: of the people who call and reach you, how many end up booking? Start there.
- Average job: total sales last year divided by the number of jobs.
Three ways to stop missing calls — honestly compared
Every one of these works for somebody. The right one depends on how many calls you get, when they come in, and what a caller needs to hear to book.
Hire a receptionist
Good: a real person who learns your business and your regulars.
Watch out for: one person, one line, business hours only — plus payroll, training, and starting over when they leave.
Answering service
Good: someone picks up around the clock.
Watch out for: most take a message rather than book the job, and they don't know your services, prices or service area.
AI receptionist
Good: answers on the first ring, 24/7, knows your business, books the appointment and texts you the details.
Watch out for: it has to be set up well and kept up to date — which is the part we handle for you.

- 3 Do you have more Google reviews than the competitor you lose jobs to?
- 4 Does every customer get asked for a review after the job — every time?
- 5 Does every estimate get followed up if they don't reply?
- 6 Does your website load fast and work well on a phone?
- 7 In the last 30 days, has anyone checked your Google profile for changes you didn't make?
- 8 Could you say right now how many calls your marketing brought in last month?

Missed calls, answered
How do I find out how many calls I miss?
Look at your phone's call history for the last two weeks and count the calls that went to voicemail, rang out, or came in while you were on another call. Most business phone systems and carriers can also show missed calls in their app or online account. Divide by two for a weekly number.
What counts as a missed call?
Any call that was not answered live by someone who could help: voicemail, no answer, a busy signal, or a call that hung up while on hold. If the caller had to wait for you to call back, count it.
Don't most people just leave a voicemail or call back?
Some do. Plenty don't — especially when something is broken, leaking or urgent. They call down the list until somebody answers. That is exactly why the calculator asks you what share would have booked: you know your customers better than any average does.
Is the number the calculator shows accurate?
It is as accurate as the numbers you put in. It is also on the low side, because it only counts the first job — not the repeat work, referrals and reviews a customer brings over the years.
What is the cheapest way to stop missing calls?
It depends on your call volume and hours. A part-time receptionist, an answering service and an AI receptionist all work for different businesses — the comparison above lays out the honest trade-offs. Your free audit will show which one fits yours.
Does an AI receptionist sound like a robot?
Try it yourself: call (920) 383-3387. That line is answered by the same AI receptionist we set up for clients. Ask it anything about MCM, then decide.
